Important Details for Installing Tile

Even those who have never installed tile can do so, providing they have the knowledge, material and time to do it right. It is not something that should be rushed but instead extra time in planning should be taken.

Basic Guidelines:

Floors

• Snap out a chalk line grid of the tile pattern.
• Make your cuts first in the area you are tiling.
• Mix your polymer modified tile thin set (tile mortar) to a peanut butter paste and spread only to the areas that you can reach.
• Do not allow traffic on fresh tile.
• Apply grout the following day.

Walls

• Snap out or draw a plumb line and a horizontal line.
• Start full tile at the lowest point and trim tile if not level.
• Spread the tile mastic (glue) evenly and only to the areas that you can reach.
• Apply grout the following day.
