Tile Installation Including Ceramic Tile and Porcelain Tile

When installing tile, the following are some tips to follow:

• Subfloor Preparation - As the most critical step in achieving a superior tile installation, the subfloor needs to be structurally sound, rigid, and free of curing compounds. We recommend having at least an 1 1/8" total plywood subfloor.
• Layout of the Floor - The room is measured, squared off and gridded.
• Preparing the Tiles - Try to mix tiles from several different boxes before installation to balance tone variations.
• Cutting - Make your cuts ahead of time and dry lay them.
• Spreading Thinset and Laying Tile - Spread thinset in small areas and lay tile in that area before carrying on.
• Grouting - This is done after the thinset has had sufficient drying time. The grout is applied with a rubber float and is cleaned off with a sponge and water before it's dry.
• Clean - Thoroughly clean area with a proper tile and grout cleaner only once the tile grout has completely cured.
• Sealing - Apply a thin, even coat and wipe up excess. Apply sealer only after the tile and grout has completely dried.
